Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) About AVAtlas 2.x vs AVAtlas 1.x
The following table gives an overview of major differences between AVAtlas version 1.x and 2.x:
Yes. AVAtlas 1.x will continue to be sold and supported product. The only reason to upgrade to version 2.x would be because you require the increased functionality. There may be minor enhancements and upgrades to the version 1.x series if bugs are found or if minor corrections to the software are required. However, the focus of our development effort will be to enhance the capabilities and functionality of the 2.x series. AVAtlas 2.x is listed at $899.00. The upgrade price from version 1.x to 2.x is $350.00 (the difference in price of the the two versions). However, anyone who has purchased AVAtlas 1.x before December 1, 2000 (the official release date of version 2.x) is eligible for a discounted upgrade price of $250.00. There is time no limitation as to when the updgrade must be purchased as long as the original 1.x purchase was prior to 12/1/2000. Atlas layouts are both backward and forward compatible in AVAtlas. This means that you can open an 1.x atlas in version 2.x and you can also open a 2.x atlas in version 1.x. However, any settings which are unique to version 2.x will be ignored by version 1.x. For example, if you have selected to include a measured grid around your map using version 2.x’s Graticules and Measured Grid Tool, this grid will not display/print in AVAtlas version 1.x. Also, if you open an atlas created in version 2.x using AVAtlas 1.x, make modifications, and then save the atlas, all settings will revert to those of version 1.x. In other words, any 2.x specific settings will be lost. IMPORTANT: All 1.x users will receive AVAtlas 1.2 a free upgrade to the 1.x series. You should install AVAtlas 1.2 immediately on your computer to insure that forward and backward compatability is functional! Yes, there is no conflict between having both versions of the software on your computer. However, a single ArcView project can only have one of the two versions loaded. When you load AVAtlas 2.x into a project which already has AVAtlas 1.x loaded, AVAtlas will automatically transfer all your atlas documents to version 2.x and unload version 1.x (After you are prompted to accept the transfer). Yes, you can download a demo version of AVAtlas 2.x from the download page at MapLogic’s website (www.maplogic.com). Some features of the demo version will be disabled, but you will be able to load an existing atlas that you have created and evaluate all the new functionality of version 2.x. |
